Entertainment Showcase's Best Picture Shelf

ENTERTAINMENT SHOWCASE’S BEST PICTURE SHELF-(introduction)

Let us not go- way- back to the beginning! We will pick out a few? Leave many out, and analyze what might of being going on inside the minds of some at the time of conception! That‘s to say, at the very least, the birth of the;  BEST PICTURE.
Let’s briefly look at why some pictures’ win!
Well, obviously to win, you must’ve been better than the rest, (ha) not necessarily!
Perhaps that’s correct, but winning is never that easy! Ninety nine percent of the time, best picture winner is deserving of its award, the other one percent, the voters are seeking to reestablish and/or bring awareness to a fresh or once-upon-a-time paradigm. That is not necessarily a bad thing; I tend to agree to like it, as long as the one percent is original work.
We all have certain criterion, what tends to be mental trickery, because our minds tease us, is when we its time to make our selection for best movie.  Removing emotion, personal feelings towards specific actors, genre, etc… vote next time for the overall craftsmanship / originality of the film. The actual story, the mental imagery that someone / people experienced and how well they exploited it from first conception to ending.  If it has your DNA on it, its original work, it must be applauded, even if it did not win best picture, I’m sure it was nominated, and the world took notice. Human nature always recognizes when someone created an original work of art! Right, we do it all the time! Haven’t you said to someone…”wow, you made that!”
I have favorites that I’m happy won!  And others I have my doubts!  That’s not to say they’re bad films.
What I feel will be a plus positive for the future of the industry as a body of entertainment, is when comprehensive, unbiased collaboration among all the principles involved on making a show / film is sincere. This is vitally important, voice is important (Alive in heaven, they did it better than anyone else). Human nature has a tendency to spoil some wonderful recipes, by not allowing ourselves the unbiased ability to accept a better way or perhaps a cleverer (ha) storyline.
Read what I wrote in, “Explore for entertainment,” those are some of the restrictions cramping the industry.
Bring your own tools to work- not someone else’s.
Movie-Making; A VISIONARY! (Frank Capra) (John Ford) (Vincent Minnelli) (David. Selznick) (Darryl F. Zanuck) (Cecil B.DeMille) (Sam Spiegel) (Walt Disney-for entertainment).
I know about-Demme, Hawk, Hitchcock, Huston, and Leone!
Contemporaries are omitted purposely. Some are extraordinarily superb! Sorry.
We will not speak of individual faults, or any of that bullshit, here we speak of the brilliance that came from a dream, and how it might have been FIRST conceived.
Sounds Silly! Its not!
Remember, it’s for the art! NOT YOU!
Loyalty, trust- you figure it out!
Patience to allow the mind to unravel what it sees, haste makes waste! Demands happen due to the nature of things!  Personalities may become falsely tarnished, not because of the person, but because of the nature of things! Figure that out 2.
Dream! Does your minds eye see it! Dream it to life! It comes alive, doesn’t it!  The movie maker’s vision; I’ve made it sound easy, its not, let’s step- aside from the actual production, (production another time, ugh) and examine first tickle the creator felt.  The production team will manufacture a camouflaged vision, camouflaged because many times throughout the franchise, things in thoughts seem disguised,   clarity takes time to rise, it percolates, slowly - creative patience.  I always say, a book is better than the movie, because of the span to explain.   (Edit) similar to a great novelist / novel stories evolve! Many fine novels have, and or had the stuffing to go on forever if the author chose to evolve the story!   Remember! To always remember!  Your audience! The viewer! What tends to run interference in the entertainment industry, as with any industry, is this thing called, “ego,” what happens is! A maker, visionary will sense a tickle; see a scene(s); attach a feeling(s), which is cool! BUT, somewhere they attach something bias to the work, their piece of shit to show it’s them! Its mine! (You forgot the viewer, and thought of yourself)Which tends to blow the story in a new direction than originally dream t? Detouring only to lapse into blind bias from the, “ego.”  A truly great maker, visionary knows, “ego,” does not let it interfere in their work. It’s extremely difficult to isolate your feelings for the well-being of the art.  ANYTHING ELSE DOES NOT WORK!
We will continue to talk of the brilliance the mind of some has provided! Never throw stones, denounce, or speak behind someone’s back!  Everyone’s shoes has some stink on the bottom and everyone’s shirt smells of sweat more than twice in their lifetime! Shit happens.
The basics! Dream to sense a feeling; (every great storyteller / creator feels it) what is the story saying to you! Not what you are saying to it (it becomes difficult to work with) add “face,” for the space, patience, Collaborate. (Imagine a room where all of you feel the tickle). Truly enjoy the ones you work with, you will inspire each other; it causes wonderful things to happen.
Frank Capra, David O. Selznick, Darryl F. Zanuck, Cecil B. DeMille., Walt Disney.  What might have been going on inside the minds at the time of first tickle? One thing was for sure!  Deep relaxed thought, allowed their mind to construct from a natural instinct!   Awake dreaming the vision! Eventually adrenalin kicks in and the mind becomes a machine of creativity! From that point, allow instinct to flourish!
All great movies fit perfectly inside the time in date/ history! (that’s is correct) the images for film instinctively happen to great makers, their mind Auto Creates to the time in history-as if no thought went into what to make-instead, who, and let’s begin!
Not as easy as I just made it seem. At this point, it’s more than a tickle, soon to be reality.
They felt the rush of a beating heart, fine work was about to be built “ego” did -not interfere.
Contemporaries omitted for now, there are some great ones.
1939 – GONE WITH THE WIND –
1953 – FROM HERE TO ETERNITY –
1957 – THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI
1959 – BEN HUR –
1961 – WEST SIDE STORY –
1962 – LAWRENCE of ARABIA - to win against, to kill a mockingbird! Whew!
1963 – LILIES OF THE FIELD
1965 – THE SOUND OF MUSIC,
Lee Marvin that year in “CAT BALLOU,” just the name and the face(s) of CAT BALLOU should have been enough to win first prize. Cat Ballou, it s all about the face! There’s a face somewhere that fits every scene nicely!

1970’s, some not necessarily original, though?
1971 – THE FRENCH CONNECTION
1972 – THE GODFATHER
1973 – THE STING – clever, don’t you agree, a sign of patience,
1974 – THE GODFATHER TWO
1975 - ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, Jack, nothing else to say!
1976 – ROCKY – simple you say, you think so! We still think of him today, admit it!
1988 – RAIN MAN – the art of keeping your eyes on the prize! It can be done. Tickle man!
1991 – THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS – you know that face, perfection, holy molly! Hopkins!
1994 – FORREST GUMP – full collaboration, we appreciated every scene, absorbed each character to the fullest. Eyes on the prize, it can be done, Perfection.
1997 – TITANIC – ok! Time to leave the ship alone now! Until it rises from the deep!
2001 – A BEAUTIFUL MIND, courage to make this film, all about a vision!
2004 – MILLION DOLLAR BABY – heart & soul baby, the way it supposed to be, perfection.
2011 – THE ARTIST – read what I wrote about silent films winning best picture!

SIMPLE stuff to think about before & during the making of a best picture.
Keep creepy people away
Dream everyday and night about the dream (edit)
Keep creepy people away
REMEMBER WHO?
Have others dream with you, next 2 u!
Work!
If you won!
Dream some more!
Movies that are not originally conceived, should they be considered for best picture?  Historical events can be heartfelt and tragic, and are categorized as documentary!   Best Picture is for originality, I believe we would see more creativity, more selection, (non-arguable, ha).  A filmmaker can undertake the task to recreate, document actual events, and maneuver as they wish to receive the most exposure for / from the film, (which is fine, we need that knowledge). The best picture should be solely based on originality conceived from within the creator!  And find the face(s) that will best exploit your imagination, (Cat Ballou).
Why during the fifties, where there were so many magnificent films.
Originality
There was a concerted, sincere effort to the art / work, to create something, a story. That time in our history, the world was ripe for entrepreneurship, the industry as a whole body was searching for direction, searching for an identity, and today this feeling is almost non-existent, except for the superb few who pioneer the progression for the future.
A best picture nomination should be one hundred and twenty minutes of actual film to be considered for best picture. if the costs weren’t astronomical, I would go out on a very thin limb and suggest…one hundred and eighty minutes- than movie- makers of all shapes, sizes and stink would begin to truly dream, as the men and lady did in, ALIVE IN HEAVEN,” did, imagine all the great storytelling, risk to imagine a great-story, movies would actually speak to us, think of a novelist!
Short films are just that, short films!
